end:  21.12.2015.start:  21.12.2015.
venue:  Ljubljana (SI)
At the premises of the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) the results of transboundary cooperation in the framework of the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) have been presented on December 21st, 2015.

The transboudary cooperation between the countries at the level of the Sava River Basin, including Slovenia, has been established on the basis of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin. The representatives of the ISRBC presented most of the activities implemented in 2015 in the field of water management, such as development of Sava River Basin management plan (approved at the 5th meeting of the Parties to the Framework Agreement, December 2014), the basis for assessment of the ecological status of water, sediment management, Water and Climate Adaptation Plan (WATCAP) and Nexus assessment for water/food/energy/ecosystem. In the field of flood management the selection of consultant for the development and implementation of flood forecasting and warning system (supported by World Bank) and the second phase of production of the Sava River (supported by USACE) are in progress. Special attention was devoted to development of data exchange system between the Sava river basin countries relevant to the implementation of the river basin management plan (SavaGIS) and the exchange of hydrological and meteorological data and information (SavaHIS). Both systems will allow the Sava riparian countries access to desired information at one place, website of the ISRBC. Both systems are in testing phase and they will soon be accessible to the wider public and experts.
Representatives of ARSO presented the main results of the project BOBER relating to upgrade the system for monitoring and analyzing the water environment in Slovenia. Within the framework of this project, Slovenia, inter alia, has renewed, upgraded and built a network of automatic surface and groundwater gauging stations, meteorological stations, new meteorological radar in western Slovenia and a new building for hydrological and metrological service together with the laboratories and computer center. They also present plans for development of hydrologic forecasting system for Slovenia.
The main conclusion of the meeting was that the results show the excellent cooperation between the countries in the Sava River Basin. Such cooperation could be an effective tool for planning of transboundary regulation and sustainable use of water resources in the international environment and could serve as a good example for other similar international river basins, respectively.
