The training workshop “How to connect policy and science for an improved water resources management: A practical introduction to application of Knowledge Brokering in the Sava river basin management planning” was held in Zagreb (Croatia), 30 November – 2 December 2011.

The workshop was organized by the ISRBC and the UNESCO Venice Office, in collaboration with the Global Water Partnership Mediterranean, and with the support of the PSI-Connect project (funded under the EU FP7), as a contribution to the GEF IWLEARN project.

The aim of the workshop was to build capacity of the science and policy communities, already involved or expected to be involved directly or indirectly in the preparation and/or implementation of the Sava River Basin Management (RBM) Plan, in order to:
- share all available (scientific, local and procedural) knowledge related to a river basin;
- integrate and apply this knowledge in a RBM planning process, and
- use knowledge brokering practices to improve stakeholder involvement in the river basin management.

The interactive character of the workshop, as well as active participation of 30 representatives from the five Sava river basin countries and a number of international organizations made the meeting a successful event, which is believed to be a trigger of the process aimed at further integration of the scientific community in the activities related to the Sava river basin management.
