First Regional Workshop on eco-tourism in a cross-border context

Conservation and sustainable development along the Sava River Basin is extremely important in terms of the biological and landscape diversity characteristic of the area, as well as for the lives of the native people. In line with the mission to implement the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin, which includes the protection and enhancement of aquatic ecosystems and coordination with the various interests of the beneficiaries of the water resources, the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission) recognizes eco-tourism as one part of their work, with particular emphasis on Ramsar wetland sites of international significance. In order to establish guidelines for developing future eco-tourism activities in the Sava River Basin countries, the Sava Commission, in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States, Croatia and the Regional Center of Environmental Protection launched the project to Develop Eco-tourism in the Sava River Basin. The First Regional Workshop on eco-tourism in a cross-border context will be held from 20th and 21st of June at Fortress Brod in the town of Slavonski Brod. The aim of the workshop is to connect and exchange tourism and nature protection experiences between representatives / experts from four countries within the Sava River Basin, as well as to set priorities and guidelines for developing eco-tourism in the regional context of transboundary cooperation.
