On January 28 (Sarajevo-BA) and January 29 (Belgrade-RS) the consultation workshop “Water-food-energy-ecosystems nexus assessment in the Sava River Basin – Lessons learned and further steps” were held. The workshops were jointly organized by UNECE and ISRBC and hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Republic Directorate for Water, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of the Republic of Serbia (Belgrade). The assessment of inter-sectoral impacts, trade-offs and benefits were carried out as part of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention).

The objectives of the workshop were the following:
  • Present the results of the nexus assessment and other recent achievements in framework of the ISRBC, in particular on establishment of SavaGIS and SavaHIS, to the national authorities and the civil society;
  • Get feedback from the authorities on the value of the findings and on what could be done in response to the recommendations; and
  • Inform and discuss with the authorities and civil society about follow-up projects and activities to ensure their relevance for the country.
More than 60 participants gathered on both workshops from relevant ministries, research institutes/universities, chambers of commerce, public institutions and NGOs.
