Launching Workshop on the establishment of a Flood Forecasting and Warning System in the Sava River Basin - Sava FFWS

venue:  Hotel Arcotel, Zagreb, Croatia
The development of a joint Flood Forecasting and Warning System in the Sava River Basin - Sava FFWS is formally launched in Zagreb on June 21, 2016.

More than 30 participants from the beneficiary countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia) as well as representatives of ISRBC attended the workshop.

The contract for this project - link has been awarded by World Bank to the Consortium of Deltares (lead partner) and Royal HaskoningDHV, in cooperation with EPTISA, HEIS and Mihailo Andelić.

The representatives of the Consortium presented the plan by which Sava FFWS will be based on the Delft-FEWS platform, which has also been applied in a number of basins across the world. The philosophy of Delft-FEWS is to provide an open shell for managing the data handling and forecasting process, allowing a wide range of external data and models to be integrated. This concept is particularly important for the five cooperating Sava countries, where different models are in use. Delft-FEWS will allow integration of meteorological, hydrological and hydraulic models into a common platform. The models will be easily ‘plugged’ into Sava FFWS by using standardized adaptors, what is the main task of the project.

In the course of the project, several versions will be released and tested by the country experts. The fully operational system shall be handed over to the beneficiaries for their use by September 2018.
