Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Sava River Basin – Project Kick-Off meeting
The kick-off meeting of the project Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Sava River Basin, which is implemented within the Sava Drina Integrated Development Programme funded by the World bank and GEF, took place on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at the premises of the Sava Commission in Zagreb. This initiative aims to unlock the hidden potential for environmentally sustainable tourism in the region, with a focus on nautical tourism, cycling, and ecotourism. By leveraging the river’s navigability, rich biodiversity, and cultural assets, the project targets a sustainable growth of the area while ensuring minimal environmental impact. The project is structured into four phases, starting with the Inception Report, where the scope, objectives, and key deliverables will be defined in collaboration with stakeholders. As part of this phase, the first round of stakeholder interviews has been conducted, gathering the first key insights to guide the project’s next steps.
Upcoming activities, including a site visit of selected areas, will lead to the formulation of a comprehensive Tourism Development Strategy. This strategy will serve as a guiding framework to prioritize investment, empower tourism offerings, and increase collaboration across the basin.
We would like to invite you to stay tuned for more updates in advancing towards next steps of the project!
