In cooperation with the International Commission for protection of Danube River (ICPDR), the Sava Commission has organized the training of the Accident Emergency and Warning System (AEWS).   The training was held on Friday, 6th of December 2019 at the premises of the Sava Commission in Zagreb. The participants were members of Permanent Expert group for Accident Control and Prevention, water inspectors and staff of the Principal International Alert Centers (PIAC) from the Sava riparian countries.

The AEWS is activated when there is a risk for transboundary water pollution, while the PIACs are the units which receive the pollution warning and communicate with relevant institutions at the international level. The PIACs should be operational 24/7. The main objective of the training is the capacity building of the national experts involved in the emergency events.
