According to the interest of the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River basin (FASRB) expressed on the 2nd Meeting of the Parties in 2009, the Sava Commission coordinates development of sustainable river tourism, among others. Mmany activities related to development of nautical, adventure based and eco- tourism as well as the culture and socially conscious tourism has already been realized. The main results comprise first Sava Nautical and Tourist Guide, Transboundary Ecotourism Guidelines and several proposals for development of transboundary projects in order to promote recreational tourism, development of biking routs, living at pristine and undisturbed natural areas, traditional community life and natural and cultural heritage.
The Joint Statement on regional cooperation on development of sustainable tourism in the Sava River Basin was signed on June 15, 2017 at Bled (Slovenia) in which the Parties
- support further strengthening of regional cooperation on the development of sustainable tourism;
- confirm the necessity to include the development of sustainable tourism in plans and strategic documents of the countries in a mutually coordinated manner and
- support mechanisms of regional cooperation in the framework of the ISRBC as a platform for participation of the competent ministries and other relevant organizations in the implementation of jointly agreed activities and projects for the development of sustainable tourism.
Joint Statement represents a perfect framework for transboundary cooperation as a contribution to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and fosters regional cooperation on sustainable development of the region which is a basic aim of the FASRB.
