“Strengthening the climate resilience of the Sava River basin”- event organized by Slovenia, 5th of June 2024

In scope of the Sava Day celebration and the 20th anniversary of the International Framework Agreement on the Sava Basin, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of Slovenia, in cooperation with the Environment Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (ARSO), prepared an event entitled Strengthening the Climate Resilience of the Sava Basin which was held on Wednesday, 5th of June 2024 in the premises of the ARSO in Ljubljana, SI.
The event was opened by Mr. Jože Novak, the Minister, following by welcome speeches of mag. Jože Knez, Director of ARSO, dr. Lidija Globevnik, General Director of Directorate for Water, dr. Mitja Bricelj, Member of the ISRBC from Slovenia and Dragan Zeljko, Executive Secretary of the ISRBC.
In their welcome speeches it was stressed that the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB) has enabled cross-border cooperation for the sustainable use of water resources, for the establishment of an international navigation regime on the Sava River and for reducing the risk of floods, droughts and pollution, by establishing a flood forecasting and early warning system for the Sava River Basin.
In addition, dr. Mitja Bricelj, as one of the founding members of the ISRBC, presented the history and main achievement of the FASRB implementation of the FASRB, while Dragan Zeljko presented the most important plans, programmes, projects and systems developed at the level of the Sava Commission in close cooperation with the experts from the Sava riparian countries. He also pointed out the importance of the future cooperation in implementation of the Sava Drina Corridor Investment Programe, supported by World Bank.
Mr. Jože Novak, the Minister, awarded the institutions and individuals who played an important role in the realization of the goals of the FASRB in the last 20 years, among them also the Secretariat of the ISRBC, the Sava Youth Parliament and dr. Mitja Bricelj.
