Sava Bike Tour
The ISRBC has initiated development of the biking routs along the Sava River to present cycling as a sustainable mobility mode and as a segment of the active tourism market. The route has been promoted by organizing the 850 km cycling tour from Sava River source in Bohinj and Kranjska gora (SI) to its mouth in Belgrade (RS).
The first tour was held in 2013 when a group of 6 experiences cyclists from the BA, HR, RS and SI cycled through four Sava countries in 9 days. On the route the cyclist from local cycling clubs, representatives from public institutions and the locals joined the core group on particular sections. The route was envisaged as a main cycling corridor that connects existing and developing local cycling networks. In additional the public events were organized aiming to promote the Sava River Basin as a very interesting destination for cyclists due to contrasting landscapes, cultural and historical heritage and intact natural beauties.
Between 2013 and 2016 three cycling tours were organized. They covered more than 850 kilometers, starting from the source of the Sava River and passing through all four Sava countries, all the way to its mouth.
As a cycling is a fast growing segment of tourism and a number of cycling tourists is increasing every year, the Sava cycling tour could contribute to development of sustainable tourism in the whole Sava region. From this unique way of traveling an additional profit could be gained and local economy boost.
