Study visit to ISRBC - Republic of Iraq delegation
Lead by the Minister of Water Resources Mr. Aun Thiyab Abdullah, high level Iraqi delegation consisted of representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office and Advisory Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, visited the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission) on April 17, 2023. The visit was financially supported by the UNDP Iraq.
The aim of visit was for delegation members to learn more about regional dialogue and the establishment of cooperative institutional frameworks and mechanisms for the governance of transboundary water cooperation in the Sava River Basin.
The visit provided different opportunities for learning and exchange of best practicies by experiencing on the Sava Commission example, how different approaches can be taken in addressing common problems.
The representatives of the Sava Commission Secretariat provided delegation members with information on how to protect and manage shared basin, common water resources and related water dependant ecosystems as well as on pratice in flood management and related achievements.
At the same day the Iraqi delegation had the meeting with representatives of the Ministry of the Economy and Sustainable Development about experience of the Republic of Croatia in water resource management.
On April 18 the delegation visited the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, the exeptional example of alluvial forest, one of the Ramsar site in the Sava River Basin, and got introduced to the practices of the management of the protected areas and its use in the flood risk management.
