The celebration of the Sava Day – June 3, 2024
On the occasion of Sava Day, the International Commission for the Sava River Basin orchestrated a remarkable online event. Here, our young participants showcased their exceptional works and engaged in the competition under the slogan, 'Let's sail into a green future!'
Dragan Zeljko, the executive secretary of the Sava Commission, addressed the participants with greetings and introductory words at the beginning of the event.
In his welcome speech, Dragan Zeljko, the executive secretary of the Sava Commission, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the young and their mentors for their unwavering interest and active participation in the competition. He underscored the young people's pivotal role in the Youth Parliament's regular activities and their significant contribution to the work of the Sava Commission, particularly through their attendance at future Sava Commission sessions.
The President of the Sava Youth Parliament, Blaž Lipovšek from the Biotechnical Educational Center Ljubljana - School of Food Processing and Nature Protection (SI), presented the work of the Youth Parliament performed during the past year. In his presentation, he mainly referred to the 11th annual Youth Parliament meeting held in October 2023 in Ljubljana (SI) on the topic "Let's work with nature!". He also stressed his presence at the session of the Barcelona Convention (COP23) on the topic of green transition, which was held in December 2023 in Portorož (SI ) and at the UN Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, which was held in Geneva (CH) in March 2024.
The central part of the event consisted of short presentations by young people who presented the works with which they participated in the competition. Fourteen teams of high school students and young people between the ages of 18 and 25 applied for the competition, and their works covered topics aimed at encouraging and increasing the use of navigation on the Sava River. Two teams from each Party to the Framework Agreement will be selected to participate in the 12th Sava Youth Parliament, which will be held in the first half of October 2024 in Slavonski Brod (HR).
As part of the event, a short quiz with questions from the field of navigation was held. The goal was for young people to learn some basic information about navigation through a fun and interactive approach.
The event program is available here.
