4th Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Water Convention

The 4th Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Water Convention was held in the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, in Bonn, on November 20–22, 2006.The Meeting was attended by more than 100 participants – representatives of the Parties and international organizations – observers and guests. Three principal topics were considered at the Meeting, namely: "Integrated management of water and related ecosystems", "Monitoring and assessment of transboundary waters", and "Water and human health". Results of the activities performed between the two Meetings (2004–2006) were analyzed, and the work plan for the coming period (2007–2009) was discussed. The Sava Commission was represented by the Secretary, Mr. Dejan Komatina.

The first attendance of the Sava Commission at the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention was notable. Within the opening ceremony, the Secretary of the Sava Commission gave a brief introduction to the Commission and expressed its interest in future cooperation with the Meeting of the Parties. There was also a poster presentation of the Sava Commission at the session organized to celebrate the 10th anniversary of entry of the Water Convention into force. The Secretary of the Sava Commission was interviewed by "Deutsche Welle", as well. Finally, an interest of the Sava Commission was accepted for its inclusion into activities within the two following topics: "Synergies between the Water Convention and the EU WFD" and "Pilot programmes on monitoring and assessment of transboundary rivers", in the period 2007–2009.
