Combating Climate Change in South-Eastern Europe

The 1st Ministerial Thematic Conference “Combating Climate Change in SEE” was held on November 14, 2008, in Sarajevo. More than 50 representatives of five SEE countries (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), international organizations and financial institutions gathered at the Conference, which was jointly organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and Regional Environmental Center (REC).

The standpoints of the countries on climate change impact mitigation and adaptation in SEE were exchanged at the Conference. The “SEE Climate Change Framework Action Plan for Adaptation” (SEE/CCFAP-A) was presented and the ministerial Joint Statement on Combating Climate Change in SEE was adopted. Cooperation of the five SEE countries, in the framework of the SEE/CCFAP-A and under coordination by RCC, was supported in the ministerial statement.

The outcomes of the Conference (Joint Statement and the SEE/CCFAP-A) will be presented to wider international expert community at the 14th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held in December 2008, in Poznan (Poland).
