Integrated management of the trans-boundary lake basins in the Southeastern Europe

The International Roundtable on Integrated management of the trans-boundary lake basins in the Southeastern Europe was held in Ohrid (Macedonia) on October 12-14 2006. About 60 representatives of organizations coordinating the process of management of the lake (Prespa, Ohrid, Skadar, Peipsi, Konstanca) and river basin (Drim, Sava) as well as representatives of international financial institutions and stakeholders including the NGO sector, attended the event held within the “Petersberg Phase II / Athens Declaration” process.

Several aspects of the integrated water management in the basin were reconsidered: legal and economical framework, institutional cooperation and role of stakeholders, sustainable financing, as well as the management under conditions of the multipurpose use of water resources. The Secretary of the Sava Commission, Mr. Dejan Komatina, delivered the presentation on integrated water management in the Sava River basin within the thematic session on multipurpose use of water resources.
