Meeting of captains of Harbour Master Offices in the Sava River Basin Belgrade

The Meeting of captains of Harbour Master Offices in the Sava River Basin was held on November 28-29 2006 in Harbour Master Office in Belgrade based on the initiative of the Sava Commission. The Meeting was hosted by the Ministry of capital investments of Republic of Serbia, and main goal of the meeting was to gather everyone responsible for implementation of regulations related to field of navigation in the Sava River.The Meeting was attended by representatives of following Harbour Master Offices: Belgrade (Serbia), Sremska Mitrovica (Serbia), Brčko (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Slavonski Brod (Croatia), Sisak (Croatia) and Koper (Slovenia), as well as by members of the Permanent Expert Group for Navigation of the Sava Commission. Mr. Kemal Karkin, the Chairman of the Sava Commission, which also participated in the meeting, greeted this initiative and expressed expectation that such meeting would be very useful for further development of the expertise and rehabilitation of navigation, and ensure very valuable suggestions and proposals to the Sava Commission.

Ms. Ivana Tomić, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of capital investments of Republic of Serbia, welcomed the meeting on behalf of the host and expressed hope that such meetings would contribute to development of the expertise and role of Harbour Master Offices in the navigation system.

After introduction and exchange of information related to the related scope of work and jurisdiction of the harbour master offices, as well as the activities regarding the navigation being undertaken by the Sava Commission, the representatives of the Harbour Master Offices gave the Sava Commission their suggestions and proposals aimed at improvement of the navigation safety.

Special emphasis was given to need for marking the Sava River waterway in the existing category in order to enable the high level of safety to masters of vessels and beneficiaries of services of the inland transport.
