Memo of Understanding on cooperation between the International Sava River Basin Commission and Danube Commission

On December 11-12, 2008, in Budapest, the 71st Ordinary Session of the Danube Commission was held.Thereof, the text of the Memo of Understanding on cooperation between the International Sava River Basin Commission and Danube Commission was adopted, and the President of the Danube Commission was entitled to sign the Memo. The Sava Commission was also granted the observer status at the Danube Commission.

The Memo of Understanding determines forms of cooperation, so, among else, it stipulates, at least, one joint expert meeting of the representatives of the two commissions annually, exchange of information on activities and organization of joint symposiums and workshops in the field of navigation. The document especially emphasizes the joint work on unification of the navigation on the Sava and Danube.

The ceremonial signing of the Memo of Understanding is expected in January or February 2009, and, by its enforcement, the commissions expect to extend and improve the existing cooperation.
