SDIP - Grant agreement signed

International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, acting as an Implementing Agency of the Global Environment Facility, and International Sava River Basin Commission, on August 31st, 2022, signed the Grant Agreement for the purpose of financing the regional activities under the Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Program (SDIP).

Regional activities aim at strengthening strategic regional dialogue, joint planning, sustainable management, and development of the shared water resources in the Sava and Drina River Basin, building resilience to climatic shocks. Furthermore, regional component will serve as a crucial confidence building platform that will bring together the national actors and strengthen the institutions and procedures through which the Sava riparian countries collaborate. It intends to make the Sava River Basin less vulnerable to floods and droughts by, inter alia, focusing on integrated water resources management and transboundary cooperation on flood and drought monitoring and mitigation, thereby making the riparian countries more resilient to extreme weather events.

Regional component of the SDIP is based on the Joint Plan of Actions for the Sava River Basin, a distinct platform for the development projects, prepared by the International Sava River Basin Commission with support of the World Bank in 2017 and Joint Statement on Plan of Action and Milestones for the Sava River Basin as a Catalyst for Cooperation in the region, signed by the representatives of the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin and Montenegro, at Bled, Republic of Slovenia, on June 15, 2017, which outlined the path to serve as the driving force for economic integration and cooperation in the region, contributing to the efforts of the Parties and Montenegro to ensure sustainable economic development in the Sava River Basin.
