The project STAWA has been launched

The project entitled Towards the Assessment of Ecological Status of water bodies in the Sava River Basin (STAWA) has been launched. It is financed by the European Commission and the City of Vienna within the START- Danube Region Project Fund. The project partners are: Biological Research Institute Siniša Stanković (RS), Jožef Stefan Institute (SI), Elektroprojekt d.d. (HR), Water Research Institute Bratislava (SK), Public Institution "Waters of Srpska" (BA) and the ISRBC.
The main objective of the STAWA is to propose a platform for efficient exchange of monitoring data and information in the Sava River Basin while the specific objectives are:
  • To collect supplementary information on ecological status for development of future water management plans and programmes (e.g. SRB Management Plan, Sediment Management Plan, Plans for development of navigation, Protocols to the FASRB, Flood Risk Management Plan).
  • To propose database available for water managers, scientists and public through the project web site with the links to the web sites of the project partners and other relevant national institutions (Ministries, Water management agencies), international organizations (e.g. ICPDR, Danube Commission) and non-governmental organizations (e.g. WWF, Green Action).

The implementation period of the project is about 12 month (until end of March 2016).
It is expected that the project results will have influence on development and implementation of planned investments and will help to prevent potential harmful effects to natural assets.
