Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment

The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment in the Sava River basin (Sava PFRA) and its update have been prepared by the Secretariat and the Permanent Expert Group for Flood Prevention of the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission), and adopted by the Sava Commission. This joint reports summarizes information on the preliminary flood risk assessment of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Countries have exchanged available data and information on areas for which they have concluded that potential significant flood risks exist or might be considered likely to occur. Data and information have been exchanged through a common data sharing platform - the Sava GIS Geoportal.

Along with conclusions related to significant floods in the past and potential future floods as well as an overview of analysed areas with potentialy significant flod risk (APSFR) from national documents, a very important strength of the 1st cycle of the flood risk management planning was identification of areas of mutual interest flood protection in the Sava River Basin (AMI).
The 2nd cycle of the flood risk management planning commenced with a review and update of the joint report on Sava PFRA. Also AMIs were reconsidered as well as the existence of flood defences which were not taken into account in the Sava PFRA.
